Call for Submissions: THE MOBILE UPLOADS PROJECT 2012
The 3rd Mobile Uploads Project will be exhibited from December 9, 2011 - January 24, 2012 at Gallery 1308 in Madison, WI.
Mobile Uploads is an ongoing that features JPEG photos (submitted directly from cameraphone users like you) rotating from a digital projection.
The Mobile Uploads Project is an ongoing exhibition organized by Amanda Schmitt that features JPEG photos submitted directly from cameraphone users. From thousands of submissions over the past two years, Schmitt is most interested in selecting photos that investigate why camera phone users choose to take a picture with a phone rather than a digital or film camera, and more specifically, why one chooses to upload the photos on social networking platforms such as facebook. Since cell phones are constantly carried by their owners, camera phones allow one to capture an image at any time, and with the rise of 3G internet connections, these images can be instantly shared with large audiences. Mobile Uploads is an attempt to concentrate these images into a more intimate — yet still live and constantly ‘uploading’ — environment.
Participants submit photos that they have taken with an iPhone, Blackberry, or other smartphone device. Camera phone users are invited to send all photos: the well-composed, the blurry, the too-dark, the too-light, the boring, the incredible, the dumb, the funny, and the clever. Those interested in submitting should send all images to mobileuploads@yahoo.com.
